Why with Paddy straw  ?

Because it’s grown and produces and is available annually making it the most common renewable annual resource. Paddy straw is a byproduct produce every year by our farmers once they cut their rice harvest the straw or the paddock as it commonly known is burnt increasing the carbon emissions. Durra Building Systems (Pvt) Ltd set up its manufacturing plant and is located at Minneriya – the hub of the paddy cultivating area in North central province. Straw has some of the most advantages and promising characteristics and benifits sought after by the building contractors making it the commonly used and tested item as a construction material. (http://www.ecobuildnetwork.org/strawbale.htm)   By making use of this freely available natural resource it would not be burnt in vain and would reduce the industries carbon foot print significantly with its low embodied energy values in conversion and reuse straw has been proven to be a better alternative construction material which has minimum impact on the environment.

With rapid growth in population globally, development in the building and construction industry is in evitable with increase demand for building material and space. Adverse affect are the scarcity of resources to cater to the increased demand. With the technological advancement in the building sector and the competiveness, making society aggressive and competitive has reduce the life expectancy of buildings from (100 – 70) has reduce to (40 – 25) creating and further increase for construction material. The increase demand increase the carbon emissions from a simple transport truck to high energy consuming with tall burning chimneys, destroys the atmosphere we live in, increasing the alerts from melting ice caps in northern hemisphere to widening wholes on the ozone.

This negative impact on the environment has now become the primary concern in the construction industry globally making the industry sensitive to finding ways and means of constructing buildings environmentally friendly. Leadership in energy and environmental design or is a green building rating system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leadership_in_Energy_and_Environmental_Design#Benefits_and_disadvantages) is developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to provide a suite of standards for the environmentally sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings and neighborhoods to encourage the Industry to build their buildings environment friendly. By using Durra Panels in your esteemed project you could also be eligible for the LEEDS rating and benefit out of it by being recognized as an owners of environmental friendly buildings.
